Ft. Jackson Basic Training Barracks Subfloor Preparation

The concrete subfloor needed approved by the USACE for proper level and flatness.

Situation

Fort Jackson trains 50 percent of the Army’s Basic Combat Training load and 60 percent of the women entering the Army each year. New basic training barracks were being constructed at Fort Jackson. The first installer poured concrete that hardened before it was level, smooth or flat.  As a result, the slab was not approved by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) inspection. The USACE was charging Clark Construction for lost days until the slab met government standards. Work could not continue on the job site until this phase of construction was complete and approved.

Installer: Coating Concepts (ARDEX LevelMaster Elite Installer®)

Contractor: Clark Construction

Featured Products

  • ARDEX K 301™ Exterior Self-Leveling Concrete Topping

Challenge

  • 6,000 square-foot installation area
  • Existing pour was hard but was not smooth, flat or level

Solution

The slab was 10 days old when ARDEX Sales Professional John Bailey was contacted to assess the situation and make recommendations. After assessing the needs of the project, Bailey encouraged the general contractor to use ARDEX MC™ PLUS Moisture Control System and ARDEX K 301™ Exterior Self-Leveling Concrete Topping. ACE was impressed by the 10-year warranty offered by ARDEX LevelMaster Elite Installer® Coating Concepts. Working on an expedited time frame, ACE approved the slab 20 days later. ARDEX Sales Professional Andy Smith met with Clark Construction and USACE to answer questions and approve the job. Clark Construction and USACE were very pleased with ARDEX and the customer service received during the process.
