Challenge
- Moisture readings above flooring manufacturer’s tolerance
- Concrete substrate not flat and smooth
- Large 125,000 sq. ft. scope of work
- New construction with fast-track schedule
Location: Milford, Delaware
Construction Manager: Whiting Turner
Architect: Cannon Design
Owner: Bayhealth
Installer: CB Flooring (finished floors), O & L Floors (subfloor prep; mitigation)
Situation
Opened in 2019, the Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus is a new, $250M, 440,000 sq. ft. community health center with state-of-the-art inpatient and emergency room facilities. A significant percentage of the new concrete slabs required moisture mitigation and the installation of a self-leveling underlayment in a compressed timeline. CB Flooring and O & L Floors responded to this challenge by completing mobilizations of 27,000 sq. ft per week, delivering the entire scope ahead of schedule.
Solution
The ARDEX system solution of MC RAPID and V 1200 Self-Leveling Underlayment addressed the required strict tolerances for a flat and level subfloor, while allowing the finished floor to be installed risk-free over concrete surfaces with high RH values. ARDEX provided additional peace of mind with a comprehensive 20-year, total system warranty.
