• Limited budget
• Short time frame

Contractor

Spectra Contract Flooring

Installer

Asurety Construction

Situation

Asurety Construction was contracted to remodel the bathrooms in a Georgia Housing Authority public housing complex that was already occupied by residents. The budget, the time frame and displacing the residents from their bathrooms didn’t allow for the time necessary to remove the existing tile and replace it. Ryan McBride, ARDEX Sales Professional reviewed the project with Asurety and the sub-contractor Spectra Contract Flooring.

Solution

Ryan consulted with ARDEX Technical Services Team to arrive at a solution. The recommendation was to leave the existing tile in place and to clean the tiles thoroughly. No mechanical abrading was necessary.

ARDEX 8+9™ Waterproofing Compound was then installed over the existing tile. ARDEX X 5™ Thin Set Mortar was then used to set the new tiles. ARDEX backed the project with a 5 year warranty providing great satisfaction and assurance to the Georgia Housing Authority.

The solution provided by ARDEX high-performance products allowed the contractors to install the new tile without having to tear out the existing tile. This fast-track solution allowed the residents use of their bathrooms several days sooner than they would have had to wait if the original tile was removed.
