Boston Scientific Building 100

Business Interiors averaged 7,000 sq. ft. per hour operating the CUBE at 66% capacity

Optimal solution needed for a multi-floor, fast-track build that required early moisture mitigation and the mixing and pumping of self-leveling underlayment over 113,000 sq. ft. of green concrete in seven mobilizations.

Challenge

  • New construction, slab on grade / metal deck over structural steel
  • 113,000 sq. ft. fresh concrete on four floors required early moisture mitigation and finishing

Contractors: S & F Concrete, Columbia Construction
Installer: Business Interiors – Woburn, MA

Situation

Following a 12 to 18-month evaluation and specification period, Columbia Construction and Business Interiors selected the optimal solution for a multi-floor, fast-track build that required early moisture mitigation and the mixing and pumping of self-leveling underlayment over 113,000 sq. ft. of green concrete in seven mobilizations. Transportation, handling and staging of pallets, bags, and mixing barrels would be labor intensive and construction schedules were tight.

Solution

The ARDEX Concrete Management Systems™, Rough Screed process, and the CUBE® Medium-Capacity Mobile Mixing Pump, were chosen to meet this project’s demanding requirements. After completing the ARDEX Rough Screed processing steps, the freshly poured slab was wet cover-cured for 3 to 7 days, profiled to a CSP 3, followed by the installation of ARDEX MC™ RAPID at 14 mils thick with a sand broadcast.

Because the CUBE has 7,500-pound bulk hopper utilizing 2,204-pound super sacks, Business Interiors expedited the installation of the ARDEX V 1200™ and significantly reduced waste and material handling. Over the course of the pumping operation, Business Interiors averaged 7,000 sq. ft. per hour and operated the CUBE at 66% capacity.

The CUBE delivers up to 24,000 pounds or 480 bags of mixed material covering 12,000 square feet at 1/4–inch in just one hour. It can pump mixed product 150 feet vertically and 400 feet horizontally.

“The ACMS™ and ARDIFLO™ Systems saved time on the front end of the construction schedule by installing the moisture control and self-leveling material during the first week of the slab’s life when it is wide open, the only time when no other trades are present,” said Mike Harris, ARDEX’s New England Sales Professional.

ARDEX pump technicians and technical experts were on site to ensure a smooth installation of the ACMS and ARDIFLO Systems. The CUBE was supported by the highly trained and experienced ARDEX Technical Pump Team, mitigating and leveling this 113,000 sq. ft. installation in record time.
